Big Shoes
03:26
|
|||
WC Handy - he kept the score
Robert Johnson thumbed a ride and opened up the door
of that car at the crossroads
where he first got the blues
We're just another generation trying to walk in their big shoes
There was Jack Owens/Bud Spires, old Son House,
Sonny Boy singing “One Way Out”
Skip James lost his woman to the Devil’s noose
(he wouldn’t cut her loose)
We’re just another generation trying to walk in their big shoes.
The blues will rock you, blues will roll
The blues got rhythm and a ton of soul
The blues sticks with you win or lose
So we can’t help trying on these shoes
McKinley Morganfield crossed the muddy waters
Little Walter blew his harp and stole their daughters
Chester Burnett howlin’ at the moon
while Willie Dixon wrote the tune
We're just another generation trying to walk in their big shoes
The blues will rock you, blues will roll
The blues got rhythm and a ton of soul
The blues sticks with you win or lose
So we can’t help trying on these shoes
Bo Diddley, Elmore, Blues Boy King
T-Bone, Buddy, Etta shakin’ her thing
John Lee, Alberta Adams, Johnnie Basset, too
(the Detroit Crew)
We're just another generation trying to walk in their big shoes
The blues will rock you, blues will roll
The blues got rhythm and a ton of soul
The blues sticks with you win or lose
So we can’t help trying on these shoes
We're just another generation trying to walk in their big shoes.

Live My Life
04:45
|
|||
I’m gonna get with the rhythm, go with the flow
Never can tell when it's my time to go.
I'll live in the moment, make each the most
Love to the limit – ‘til I give up the ghost.
oh-oh-oh... I'm gonna live my life (live my life)
oh-oh-oh... I'm gonna live my life (live my life)
I'll play in the pocket, get with the groove
shuffle my feet, yeah, when my soul starts to move
I’ll dance to the music that's playing inside
I'll sing to the sky like there's nothing to hide
oh-oh-oh... I'm gonna live my life (live my life)
oh-oh-oh... I'm gonna live my life (live my life)
I'll look to the future, go for the gold
Hope will uphold me, even when I get old.
I’m gonna take my chances, do more than try
Yeah, I’ll give it my all, ‘til the day that I fly...
oh-oh-oh... I'm gonna live my life (live my life)
oh-oh-oh... I'm gonna live my life (live my life)

No Love Lost
02:54
|
|||
I got people that I love flat against the wall
they know some of my story, but they don't know all
I see `em smile in a perfect pose
But I know they fight - I've been to some of those, but -
there's no love lost,
no love lost,
no love lost -
what they don't know can't hurt me.
I could speak my mind and burst their bubble
and get myself into a world of trouble
but that don't sound like fun to me
I'd rather just let `em be, so –
there's no love lost,
no love lost,
no love lost -
what they don't know can't hurt me.
maybe I have skeletons and a darker side
it could be true that I got something to hide
I don’t consider it any kind of sin -
It's kind to lock those tales within, so –
there's no love lost,
no love lost,
no love lost -
what they don't know can't hurt me.

Desperate Man
06:52
|
|||
How many lonely nights… I couldn’t fight away the tears?
How many dreary days… I tried to pray away the fears?
If I could shake it, I just might make it… beyond the other side
But I’ve run so hard, only come this far – it’s like I never tried
I'm a desperate man... a slaver's son,
a holy mess... with a loaded gun
I'm a desperate man... with burning eyes,
praying "carry me to paradise..."
Like a prisoner… in chains no one can see
A dead man walking… down the hall to eternity
If I could shake it I just might make it – at the corner break free
But hope just smolders… like a ship on fire… at sea
I'm a desperate man... a slaver's son,
a holy mess... with a smoking gun
I'm a desperate man... with empty eyes,
praying "carry me to paradise..."
In uncertainty of everything I’ve heard
I take the leap of doubt into the peace of the absurd
What’s left? Who’s right? I know only up and down.
Will I reach the heights when my feet have hit the ground?
I'm a desperate man... a slaver's son,
a holy mess... with an empty gun
I'm a desperate man... with tired eyes,
praying "carry me to paradise..."

Remotely True
07:42
|
|||
We have exported our future and imported our chains
and our precious little vision is now swirling down the drain
we have sacrificed tomorrow for some self-serve gasoline
that will hold us like the levee held the tide in New Orleans
We have seen the truth...
we changed the channel instead.
We have lived the lie...
Picked the blue pill, passed the red.
In the matrix of our suburbs rot the vacant domiciles
In the malls where we worship prey the priests and pedophiles
In the parks we used to wander now they drill for liquid gold
In the city lights our human rights are all but bought and sold
We have seen the truth...
we changed the channel instead.
We have lived the lie...
Picked the blue pill, passed the red.
And now we finally wonder in the glare of our flat screen
Is it all remotely true - this American dream?
But maybe we should ask: is it what we really need?
Is there a better vision that can nourish more than our greed?
We have seen the truth...
we changed the channel instead.
We have lived the lie...
Picked the blue pill, passed the red.

Quick Fix (2012)
04:41
|
|||
When I skinned my knee Momma made me feel better
but the wound still needed time to heal
When Betty broke my heart you know I wanted to die
somehow I survived that long ordeal
Heartache to heartache I grew strong
learning to take whatever comes along…
I went to Sunday School, I heard the Golden Rule
folks fought over chairs and padded pews
When my friend got fired he made their prayer list
but they kept their cash - he didn't share their views
I grew disillusioned, but I held on
`cause there's no confusion, between right and wrong
(and I think that's wrong but)
I don't want a quick fix,
I don't need a quick fix.
I don't want a quick fix,
Hey mister – keep your quick fix.
Some talk of pie in the sky in the sweet bye and bye
Well, I believe in a place called Heaven
No tears, no fears, no sin, no dyin'
but in the meantime I've got to keep on livin'
through laughter and sorrow, sun and rain
sharing my hero’s great love and pain…
I don't want a quick fix,
I don't need a quick fix.
I don't want a quick fix,
Hey mister – keep your quick fix.

Maybe It's You
04:03
|
|||
I used to take that junk so personally
like a slamdance, everybody hammering me
You could say the worst and I would believe
that it's nobody’s fault except for me, but -
ooh - maybe it's you (4x)
Maybe mommy never said I was any good
Maybe dad got mad when I did the best I could
When your cold hard slap came out of the blue
Tried to blame myself, then I thought it through -
CHORUS
Did you have a bad day? Did the bed bugs bite?
Are you just a jerk looking for a fight?
I'm a little naive, not that bright,
But I think I finally see the light...
So you can take stuff you're shoveling me
spread it all around for my friends to see
manipulate, fabricate, bait the hook
but I won’t give it a second look, because -
ooh - maybe it's you (3x)
ooh - it’s probably you.
Did you have a bad day? Did the bed bugs bite?
Are you just a jerk looking for a fight?
I'm a little naive, not that bright,
But I think I finally see the light...
ooh - maybe it's you (3x)
ooh - it’s probably you.
Definitely you.

Blindsided
04:20
|
|||
Hey you - what gives?
I guess you know where I live.
Could you pull a punch for a long-lost friend
who didn't know he had to make amends?
What did I do to you anyway?
I don't understand what makes a man carry on that way
I was blindsided - you whupped me good upside the head
blindsided - a little bit harder and I might be dead
Yeah, blindsided - don't you know I was fit to be tied
Never did see it coming - oh no - you hit me on the blind side.
Hit-and-run, slash-and-dash…
I'll give you credit - you didn't take cash
but you left a gash where my heart still beats
disappeared down a one-way street
What did I do to you anyway?
I don't understand what makes a man carry on that way
I was blindsided - you whupped me good upside the head
blindsided - a little bit harder and I might be dead
Yeah, blindsided - don't you know I was fit to be tied
Never did see it coming - oh no - you hit me on the blind side.
Oh no - there you go...
I better think and take it slow...
I won't do to you what I don't want done
(even though you might deserve it, son)
'cause eye for eye leaves us both blind
mercy, mercy - I know vengeance isn't mine
I was blindsided - you whupped me good upside the head
blindsided - a little bit harder and I might be dead
Yeah, blindsided - don't you know I was fit to be tied
Never did see it coming - oh no - you hit me on the blind side.

Walking Time
07:41
|
|||
They say the first step is the hardest, it gets easier as you go.
But I'm stuck in indecision 'cause it might cost more than I know.
How could I ever turn my back on such a big part of my past?
But if I don't I could be stuck right here and my days are fading fast...
Come on, get on, move down the road
Come on, get on, lose your load
Sometimes you run away, sometimes you fly
Sometimes you jump overboard, right now, it's walking time
I find comfort in the familiar - faded jeans I love to wear
beat up shoes slide on like my skin, that creaky easy chair
But I'm not ready to retire now, take it easy all my days
My bucket list is spilling and it's time to change my ways
Come on, get on, move down the road
Come on, get on, lose your load
Sometimes you run away, sometimes you fly
Sometimes you jump overboard, right now, it's walking time
Tick-tock-tick - why are you waiting?
Tick-tock-tick - time never slows.
Tick-tock-tick - stop hesitating –
you can't get it back after it goes...
Sometimes you run…
Sometimes you fly…
Sometimes it’s overboard…
Right now, it's walking time.

Keeper (2012)
11:36
|
|||
I was told the way it's done is lookin out for #1
They assured me it was true so that's just what I tried to do
but they - whoever they is – they didn't spill the whole affair
and by the time I got what I wanted there was nobody there
and it gets so lonely, yeah, it wears on your mind
oh, it gets so lonely, but that's when you find that...
Everything has a price, everything takes a sacrifice
When you look back on your life will it be worth it? (Will it?)
Everything has a price, everything takes a sacrifice
I shouldn't have to say it twice, but I did.
Me, me, me - is that any way to live?
From my experience to trade it all for cash doesn’t make much sense.
To grab the girl and the shiny car in trade for all you have and are
Leaves a brutal legacy and it might destroy a life or three
and you’ll be remembered and history ain't kind
yeah, you’ll be remembered but too late to find that ...
Everything has a price, everything takes a sacrifice
When you look back on your life will it be worth it? (Will it?)
Everything has a price, everything takes a sacrifice
I shouldn't have to say it twice, but I did.
I know I'll never find any peace of mind,
when I'm only tryin' to look out for myself...
So I will be your keeper, I'll be here for you.

On The Night Train
06:20
|
|||
Pour another cup of coffee, try to stay awake
Baby’s gone too long, more than I could take
now she's coming for me on the night train
Made about thousand phone calls begging her return
All I did and didn't do, oh, I swear I learned
now she's coming for me on the night train (2x)
So let it roll... oh let it roll... she's coming home...
On the track past Jackson to the place where she belongs, yeah ... Woo hoo!
She headed to Chicago that cold November night
Searching for herself and for someone to treat her right
now she's coming for me on the night train
Looking back I see the reasons and the seasons and the scars
But wherever you go, baby, there you are
still she's coming for me on the night train (2x)
So let it roll... oh let it roll… 'cause she's coming home
On the Amtrak to Pontiac and back into my arms...
This time... I'll get it right...
I'll do my part... I'll hold her tight...
I'll put her needs... above my own...
So roll on night train - roll on home. ... Woo hoo!
As I pull into the station I hear the whistle down the line
My heart beats to the engine, oh my baby’s right on time
and she's coming for me on the night train
I study every window to catch my baby's eye
Over there - in the doorway… we both begin to cry...
This time... I'll get it right...
I'll do my part... I'll hold her tight...
I'll put her needs... above my own...
So roll on night train – we’re going home!

Lord, I've been working, working hard every day
Now the factory's shuttin’ down, all the jobs are goin’ away
I looked my baby in the eyes…I didn't know what to say
I just hung my head down low, tried to force the tears away
But it's just no use – feels like the blues are here to stay
so I got on my knees - I began to pray
(what can I do but pray at a time like this?)
I cried, "Lord, Lord, Lord – what can I do or say?
You know the bills will still keep coming, I won't have dollar one to pay;
I ain't looking for a hand-out – I want to work my blues away -
can you help me out?"
JAM
I want to work, work, work - work my blues away
I want to work, work, work - work my blues away
I ain't looking for a hand-out - I'll do my part to earn my pay.
I want to work, work, work - work my blues away
I ain't looking for a hand-out…
I want to work my blues… away.
